Setting Sail…Fifteen Months Out from a Transatlantic Voyage

December 30, 2010

Years of scheming, and today we set the first critical date on the calendar. No, not the Depart-From-Home date. The Step-Foot-Onto-A-Ship date.

March 21, 2012.

Transatlantic crossing from Brazil to Spain.

Dark (dirt-cheap / relatively speaking) inside cabin. Wide open ocean.

We still don’t know when we’ll actually leave the state… But one way or another, we’ll be getting ourselves to S. America by the Vernal Equinox.

This is awesome! So jealous… i’ve been looking into how to do a transatlantic voyage and time it when the ships are repositioning… don’t think it’s gonna work.

Can’t wait to hear how it goes!

Yes, we are so, so excited. It’s been booked for ages now, and we talk about it at least five times a week : ) Aside from internet access being 95¢/minute on the ship, we have high hopes for an unbeatable crossing.

Hey guys, love this idea. Any chance you could tell me how much this cost you? Safe travels :)

Hi Ash, we booked 14 months in advance with an agent and scored a price of $969.00 per person! That included all port fees, taxes, gratuities, and a $100 per person shipboard credit. We didn’t need airfare as part of the package, and we were willing to book an inside (windowless) cabin. As it turned out, we were bumped up to a partial-obstructed view cabin (the lifeboat was in front of the window, so we didn’t get a view, but we got daylight)… I’d jump at this again in a heartbeat; in fact, it was such a great experience I’d spend double what we paid without hesitation.
