Where to Stay in Wilderness: Palms Wilderness Deluxe Bed and Breakfast

Palms Wilderness Deluxe B&B: Our favorite combination of all-things South African.
See other featured accommodations in our Where to Stay in South Africa directory.

Palms Wilderness is a luxuriously peaceful Bed and Breakfast with gorgeous gardens situated squarely on the Garden Route in – you guessed it – Wilderness, South Africa.

After crossing the threshold at the entry gate, guests quickly discover the hidden jewels scattered about the property: tucked away garden sitting areas; a pool promising lazy hours and quick dips alike; a classy home-away-from-home living room with books and an Honesty Bar, deep couches and a TV, too. A nicely compiled book of area activities and maps provided upon check-in ensures that you’ll be content both relaxing on the property or venturing out to explore the Garden Route’s finer features.

Palms Wilderness garden suites are fit for explorers of yesteryear and of today. Port wine on the coffee table, a soaking tub perfect for relaxation at the end of a day’s adventure, and a traditional high thatched roof above to remind you you’re in Africa before slipping off into a deep and happy sleep.

The Palms Wilderness Garden Breakfast and resident one-legged feathered greeter may be the most charming treasures of the place. Owners and proprietors Johann and Candice met many years ago in the restaurant industry, and their experience shows. On sunny mornings, their mealtime celebration is unrivaled. Tea and coffee service among the blooming plants and palm trees. Depending on the day, eggs and bacon or spinach frittata may be on the menu. Granola blends with generous seeds and nuts, yogurt with just the perfect sweetness, and bright and cheery fruit salads to start every day.

Bonus: Palms Wilderness runs a beautiful boutique shop with crafts, jewelry, artwork and other creations from artisans based in South Africa and around the greater African continent.

Our Favorite Memory: Realizing that we had found the perfect place for our two personalities: beautiful gardens, beautiful architecture, and fluffy down comforters and a classy lounge room with DIY drinks at the honesty bar, shelves of books, and cushy couches surrounded by distinctly South African decor.
