During our drive through the South Island, we stayed a night at Te Wanaka Lodge, a boutique hotel just blocks from the Wanaka Lake Front.
The tidy private rooms and cozy common spaces provide a nice mix of down time and opportunity to chat with others and gather tips and recommendations from fellow travelers. Overstuffed couches and armchairs inside; rambling rosebushes and garden beds outside. Azure blue lake views from the bedroom windows, and simple stairs to the dining and common spaces.
Our Favorite Memory: A touch of tinsel for the holidays with white roses in full bloom, just weeks before Christmas.

Breakfast: Simple and easy.
Our Favorite Amenities: It’s a toss up between the outdoor cedar hot tub and the indoor tea chest. Either way—easy ways to warm your bones and relax.
Setting: A private complex within two minutes’ walk of downtown and the gorgeous Wanaka lakefront.
