Oregonians: If You Haven’t Got Your Health…

November 26, 2013

I’ve been mothering a little sick baby this week. Two month old Lucie came down with her first cold, and the past string of days has been a blur of steam baths, nasal saline drops, delightful Swedish inventions (ha!), cuddles, nighttime rocking sessions, and daytime board books for temporary distraction from the snuffles (maybe more for me than her?).

Speaking of healthcare and temporary distractions from the snuffles (or snafus?)…

Oregonians: even though as of last week we haven’t enrolled a single applicant through our state’s insurance exchange website (oh, and we hired 400 temps to process paper applications in the meantime), just remember, we still have two killer music videos to remind us of healthy days.

Back in July, The Oregonian published a story about the Oregon Healthcare Exchange’s little project:

The reforms are complicated and controversial. But you wouldn’t know it from the first wave of the Oregon-centric ad campaign, which features snappy jingles, simple messages and feel-good artwork at a cost of $2.9 million.

The TV and radio spots feature the slogan “Long Live Oregonians,” and performances by popular Oregon artists like folksinger Laura Gibson, mariachi folksinger Edna Vazquez, the hip-hop group Livesavas, and Matt Sheehy of bands like Lost Lander and Ramona Falls.

Whether you’re sick, sick of the drama, happily healthy, or (like me) just glad for a state that’s as distractingly scenic and quirky as Oregon, enjoy the jingles…and wish us a return to clear nasal passages with the passage of not-too-many-more sleepless hours.

I can’t decide which is my favorite. I like the scenery in Matt’s, but Laura’s “logger and lawyer and stay at home dad” line kills me every time…

Fellow Oregonians: Which do you like best?

Foreigners and friends from the other 49 states: Which of the two might lure you to visit?

Debaters of the healthcare debacle: I’d rather not get into it here…though I think Christopher Guest sums it up nicely:

“Get some rest. If you haven’t got your health, then you haven’t got anything.”
-Count Rugen, The Princess Bride

Short and Sweet and Scattershot. I’d say we got at least two of the three? xx Bethany

Gee, that makes me want to move back…I love Laura Gibson, but the background shots in the second video make me homesick. Now if they could actually get some health care rolling out….

Yeah, isn’t it crazy? I’m fairly certain I heard on that news story that Oregon was the *only* state to not have a single – not one – online registration so far. Um, hello? We can manage cute music videos but not a working website? ;)

Anyway…yay for good music, though, right?

They’re both great but #1 with the interactive background is my pick. :-)

Isn’t it fun? :) I love the “accidental” mixup of the mural…

I’m sure you can appreciate all of the humor, Neil. So great seeing you when you came through town! I hope you delivered our hugs back to everyone in Denver!
