Little Traveler: Across the River and Back Again

June 14, 2016

You have to start those grand adventures with little baby steps, right?

With both girls, we traveled across state lines from Oregon into Washington during their first week or so out in the world. Our newborn photographer Erin Tole shoots just outside Portland, across the Columbia River, and she’s well worth the foray into that mysterious land of Vancouver… (WA, not B.C.)

These newborn photos are for posterity, and also (let’s be real) for my personal enjoyment, and since I’m feeling particularly sappy today, I’m finally posting them here to share with you.

I can’t believe how instantaneously little Lucie grew up to be a big sister.

As soon as that tiny infant body was set beside her, she seemingly doubled in size.

And I can’t believe now, months after these photos were taken, how quickly my little Marion unfurled from that little ball of promise into the wiggly, giggly, charmer that she is today.

I’m excited to pull together the snapshots from her first six months of life, but for now…a tiny week old newborn in photos:

It’s so funny to me, because she does this exact tongue thing to this day.

“Surely you don’t disbelieve the prophecies, because you had a hand in bringing them about yourself? You don’t really suppose, do you, that all your adventures and escapes were managed by mere luck, just for your sole benefit?  You are a very fine person, Mr. Baggins, and I am very fond of you; but you are only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all!”
-J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

She’s been born into this Oregon-loving family with an adventurous mom and a courageous dad and an indomitable big sister, and I can only hope to watch and see where her sweet little feet will eventually take her…

Thanks as always to Erin Tole for her gorgeous work in documenting our biggest tiny adventures!
